Let’s face it- we all want it!  There’s nothing sexier than confidence and a defined waist.

Today I would like to talk to you about what you can do to reduce your middle section which seems to creep up on you quickly!

Did you know a 1/3 of women are low in protein?!  According to UCLA researchers, amino acid deficiencies (amino acids make up protein!) are on the rise.  “Today at least 33% of women aren’t getting enough of these protein building blocks in their diets,” stated David Heber,M.D.,Ph.D., director of UCLA Center for Human Nutrition.

This deficiency causes fatigue, moodiness, thinning hair, and brain fog.

Protein is one of the most important macro-nutrients in our diet.

If you want to increase your metabolism you have to get to the source:

One of my clients was complaining about being tired all the time and asked me this question.  Our conversation got me thinking and inspired my next Workshop- Seven Ways to Pump up your Metabolism.


Your metabolism controls your mood, clarity of your thinking, weight, hormones, menstrual cycles, and prevention of disease.  As you can see this is a big one!  A low metabolism can make your days drag, cause you to be constantly tired, and is a sign that something is off with your body.

During my workshop, Seven Ways to Pump up your Metabolism, I will be discussing various ways to take and incorporate in your everyday lives.

Here’s a sneak peak of some of my key tips to Pump up your Metabolism:

1)      Take a daily multivitamin- this helps creates a foundation for everything your body does.  It will also help your body burn fat better!  A good multivitamin, like Shaklee’s Vitalea ,

will help balance your blood sugar and hormones, boost your mood, get sick less often, and affects how your choose your foods.  For example- your body will crave certain foods because it is lacking certain vitamins and nutrients.

2)      Increase the amount of Oxygen to your cells. Breathing is so simple and so obvious we often take it for granted. To help increase your metabolism I suggest using the 3 part breath.  This Yoga breath is known to increase the oxygen your cells get by 7 times.  Three-part yoga breathing is a method of breathing slowly and regularly through the nostrils in such a way that you fill all three chambers of your breathing capacity.  To do this you breathe in through your nostrils, fill your lower abdomen with air, then fill your upper abdomen with air, and finally fill your upper lungs.


3)      Keep your calorie intake above 1000 calories. As women, (I’ve even done this!) we think by skipping a meal we can make up for eating that extra chocolate bar.  But we need to realize that when you eat under 1000 calories your body goes into starvation mode.  It starts lowering its metabolic needs to conserve energy which leaves you feeling sleepy, groggy, and dopey.  You’ll notice you will have less energy when you work out and even in your normal routines.

These tips are just the tip of the iceberg!  During my Workshop I will be elaborating on these 3 tips and teaching you 4 more while we indulge and eat cheese/drink wine. (80-20 rule right?!)

Last week on my Blog, Too Tired Too Often, I wrote about Adrenal Fatigue and what causes your body to get into this state.

Too tired too often?!

2 months! 2 months!  Can you feel it?! I do– Spring is near.  During this time of year I get really excited in anticipation of the warm weather!  But at the same time I feel my body is dragging to keep up.  I recently realized by listening to some of my clients that I’m myself am also overdoing it, stressing myself out, and operating on fumes!  It’s the perfect time to get my body and energy back so I can enjoy the warmer weather in the Spring.

 This month I want to talk about Adrenal Fatigue.

  •  Do you find it difficult to get out of bed in the morning?
  • Do you feel like you can never do enough?
  • Do you feel weary and irritable a lot of the time?
  • Do you struggle to “come down” at night so that you can fall asleep?

 If you are experiencing some of these symptoms you are probably going through a common issue called Adrenal Fatigue.

 Your Adrenal Glands’ primary responsibility is to help you survive stress.  They will activate with all kinds of stress- mental, emotional, environmental and physical.  Most of us are exhausted and stressed out a lot of the time and we turn to instant fixes such as medication, sugar, and coffee.  These unhealthy lifestyle habits cause our adrenal glands to be overrun and eventually lead to adrenal fatigue.

Adrenal Fatigue can cause your entire body to feel depleted because adrenals are linked to many of the systems of the body.  This can lead to weight gain, fuzzy thinking, insomnia, severe fatigue, thyroid disorders and accelerated aging.  No wonder a lot of us are feeling burnt out!

But wait!  It’s important to realize that lifestyle habits such as not enough sleep and too much stress are the root of these medical problems.  Our power lies in not being perfect but realizing we are in control of these lifestyle habits.

 In today’s society-  we want immediate results.  Medications might help you for the short term but they are really only covering the truth. Through my practice and coaching I will help you find the underlying causes of your burn out and teach you tips to make small incremental changes in your lifestyle.
