Are you thirsty?

It’s HOT out!  During the Summer it is very important to make sure we stay hydrated especially while we are working out.

I find myself getting tired midway through my Aerobic class.  One second I’m grapevineing then next I’m feeling a little spacey and not getting the combinations!  The instructor is telling me to go left and I’m going right.  I’ve lost my concentration.  (This is not because I’m blonde or my age)  I’m dehydrated!

Dehydration usually occurs between 20-25 minutes into your workout.  As you are sweating your blood volume continues to decline, your heart has to work harder, and your generating even more internal heat.  The result is a progressive deterioration of physical and mental capacity marked by thirst, fatigue, decreased muscle coordination, and mental errors.

When people are thirsty they grab for soda and sport drinks..  Both of these beverages contain lots of sugar and can lead to even more dehydration!

The best thing you can drink is a well-designed sports drink like Shaklee’s Performance.  This beverage offers enough carbohydrates and electrolytes to be optimally absorbed by the body and the proper amount of sugar.

(( Check it out here: http://bit.ly/l14QFk ))

I suggest to drink 1 cup of Performance at least 15 minutes before exercise.  And if your doing a high intensity workout also every 30 minutes while you are exercising.  This will keep you sharper and give you more endurance and stamina.  You’ll be ready to rock again the next day!

Shaklee is offering a Free $75 (Retail Value) Sports Nutrition Pack for new clients.

This pack provides what your body needs before, during, and after workouts.

Muscle Soreness

Exercising and starting a new workout routine can be challenging.   Summer and warm weather can help motivate us to get outside and moving but with these new routines we run into some challenges.   I often find my muscles are quite sore after a work out!

I have been enjoying this beautiful weather and worked out 5 days last week.  My body is not used to it and I became really sore.   It was hard for me to lift my arms to wash my hair or even get dressed.  Although I felt accomplished and great in my mind my muscles were really stiff.

I started doing some research on ‘muscle soreness’ and found out that this is a common thing.   Rick Sharp, a professor of exercise physiology at Iowa State University, stated:  “Muscles go through quite a bit of physical stress when we exercise.”    When we work out we accumulate lactic acid in the muscles.  Lactic acid is a normal byproduct of muscle metabolism but can irritate muscles and cause discomfort and soreness.  Soreness is also caused by small tears in the muscle fibers.  This is a good sign and means we on the right track but can be pretty painful.

After my week of working out I decided to use some of Shaklee’s Products:

Shaklee’s Physique:

This product provides a strategic way of rebuilding so that you have less soreness.   Anytime the muscle are taxed they burn.  Also fibers are burning down, the body needs a combinations of carbs and proteins to build stronger and bigger.

I also used Shaklee Performance:

Performance is a great way to replenish the body, it gives you a steady supply of carbohydrates and electrolytes and helps rebuild the body after exercise.

I took these 2 products after I worked out and within a few hours I felt less tense.  My muscles were able to relax and did not feel as sore!

Here’s a few MORE great tips to prevent soreness this summer!

1) Make sure to Warm-up before and stretch after a work out

2) Proper Nutrition! I can’t emphasize this enough- if your body is not getting the right amount of vitamins and nutrients it cannot recover well.  (Supplements help with this!  And don’t be ashamed- it’s almost impossible to get everything we need in 1 day!)

3) Rest if you need to!  Don’t push your body- if you need to take a day off take a day off!

Beat the burn-out this Summer with these Tips and some of Shaklee’s Amazing Products!

Let’s face it- when the weather gets warm we tend to be really excited and want to be active all the time!

We decide to start a new exercise regime such as yoga, walking with friends or family, lifting weights at a gym or a new dance class.

Although we are enjoying all these activities by mid-summer a lot of us start to wind down.  We tend to lose steam because we over exerted ourselves.

During the Summers, I used to do  Nutrition Consultations in exercise studios.   In June we would always have a lot of people coming in but by the end it always trickled down to a few.  Many of my clients quit because of aches, pains, muscle pulls, and “hitting the wall” energy wise.

Why was this happening?!  And What can we do to continue “feeling the burn” as Jane Fonda says?!

I would have my clients analyze:

  • Food : -Make sure they are eating a protein rich breakfast (only eating fruit can leave you hungry.)

-Incorporate Cinch or Soy Protein Shakes into their routine.

(( Click here to order: http://bit.ly/ffNNSF )) These Smoothies are light but filled with protein, vitamins and nutrients. (available in Strawberry, Chocolate, Vanilla and Cafe Latte) Exercise puts a demand on the body to rebuild and repair. This means more nutrition is needed!   These Smoothies will go a long way to keep your energy up for exercise!

  • Supplements: They are a must! A food based, well researched with credible science Multivitamin is a good start. Start  with the VITALIZER.  (( Click here to order: http://bit.ly/h2n2XA ))  It’s an amazing daily vitamin strip that does all the work for you! Each daily dose contains: 2 Vita Lea Multi-vitamins, 2 B-complex, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Omegas and Acidophilus in the Optiflora.
  • Hydration: It’s so important to start your day off with two glasses of water.  In hot weather you lose more water, so you may need more than eight glasses. Eating more fresh fruits and vegetables will give your more water. Performance is a great way to replenish the body, it gives you a steady supply of carbohydrates and electrolytes and helps rebuild the body after exercise. Products like Gatorade are high in sugar and dehydrates the body – sugar dehydrates the body.
  • Rebuilding and Repairing: To prevent soreness after you workout use  Shaklee’s physique.  It provides a strategic way of rebuilding so that you don’t have any soreness. Anytime the muscle are taxed they burn.  Also fibers are burning down, the body needs a combinations of carbs and proteins to build stronger and bigger. A coach who uses Shaklee’s products with his high school athletes made the comment that the kids that use Shaklee protein powder, Physique right after they work out have less soreness vs. other products they had used before.

It’s finally almost here!   The Season we have been waiting 8 long snowy months for- SUMMER!

Summer was always my favorite time of the year. My sons would finish school and were always anxious to head off to their sports camps. There’s just something about warm weather that makes everyone a little bit more happy and more importantly active!

Our bodies thrive on being active but we also have to make sure we are feeding and treating them correctly! I’m all for having fun and indulging (ice cream seems to go with warm weather!) But I always try to keep in mind the 80/20 rule. Keeping your nutrition on track will help you stay more focused (prevent accidents,) allow the muscle to adapt to new activities (prevent tears,) and have the energy to enjoy your summer!

Shaklee supplements help give you the Essential nutrition we are missing from our less than perfect diets. Summer life demands more fuel! It’s important to have ‘Endurance Foods’ when you are being active because you are burning a lot of energy.

I recommend Shaklee’s Performance drink

This drink is packed with slow burning carbs which will give you fuel for those activities and work outs. This product is superior to Gatorade or PowerAide for you kids because these products contain a lot of sugar which really dehydrates the body. Performance hydrates you and keeps you feeling strong.

Another great product is the VITALIZER.

It’s an amazing daily vitamin strip that does all the work for you! Each daily dose contains: 2 Vita Lea Multi-vitamins, 2 B-complex, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Omegas and Acidophilus in the Optiflora. The Vita Lea Multi-vitamin covers all of your foundational bases. The Vitamin C is important to support an athlete’s immune system so they won’t get sick, because their body is under so much stress. The B-complex helps with the stress, but also builds and maintains muscle. The Vita E is important for oxygenating the blood. Vitamin A is actually stores as betacarotene within your body so that you get those nutrients when you need it. The Omegas in the fish oil will help with circulation and acts as an anti-inflammatory. The Optiflora will help with the immune system and help to regulate the digestive tract. Talk about a power pack!

Some other products I recommend for you and your kids this summer:

CINCH SHAKE & BARS:

I can’t talk enough about how wonderful these products are!  High in Protein and Leucine these products help burn fat and keep muscle!

SHAKLEE ENERGY CHEWS:

This product helps get your body moving, sharpens your mind and can even improve your mood. Shaklee Energy Chewscontain natural caffeine from green tea, B Vitmains, Vitamin C and D. Many athletes have found these chews helpful just prior to their game or sport.

Try them out!
