The Holidays– as much as we love them they can be quite s-t-r-e-s-s-f-u-l.

Countless parties, foods, drinks, and gift giving.

In order to enjoy all of these events you need to take some down time for yourself.

During the flurry of the holiday season I help stressed out professionals stay out of the danger zone.

The Holidays are supposed to be fun not stressful!

In order to enjoy them I suggest to take some time for yourself and create your own calm oasis.

For me, when I’m stressed–I notice:

  • I am clenching my jaw which is giving me neck pain

So I make sure to take from 20 minutes to 40 minutes to meditate and stretch first thing in the morning. I focus on relaxing  and strengthening my shoulder blades so they do not end up by my ears.

I check  in every couple of hours..  How am I sitting?  What’s  my posture like?  And I take the time to stretch and move throughout my day.

I also use Shaklee’s Stress Relief Complex which is a BIG part of helping me break out of these reactive stress patterns.  The Stress Relief Complex reduces cortisol levels which balances the body and reduces the fat storing around the middle.

Next…

  • My digestion is totally off

To help with this, I used Shaklee’s stomach soothing herbal peppermint ginger tea.  This helps sooth your stomach, calms an upset stomach, and improves digestion.  It’s easy to make and I always carry it with me!

  • My skin becomes reactive

Our skin is a reflection on the rest of our body.  The more stressed out I get I start to have dry, itchy and  red patches.  To help with this I wash my face with a thorough and gentle face and body wash.  I suggest to use Shaklee’s Gentle Cleansing Bar.  It is gentle and a good cleaner for your face and body!

Next I put Shaklee’s Calming Complex on my face This gel is more than a moisturizer.  It helps strengthen and repair your skin.

If we create a calm oasis during the stressful holiday season and take this time for ourselves we can actually enjoy it!  Make sure you stretch/work out, take care of your skin, and take supplements.

Do it for yourself, your family friends and enjoy this lovely season!

To help create your oasis I am offering a

I’m quite the traveler these days.  Last weekend I went away again to Salt Lake City, Utah with some of my friends in the Art World.  We enjoyed dining at Robert Redford’s Restaurant, sight-seeing at Park City (ski resort area) but the main purpose of the trip was to celebrate my friend’s birthday by visiting the Spiral Jetty.

Ever heard of this?

The Spiral Jetty was created by an American sculptor, Robert Smithson, in the 1970s.  He took large rocks and formed a 1,500-foot-long and 15-foot-wide counterclockwise spiral in the Great Salt Lake.  It was quite a spectacular view!  I felt like I was in another world and was so glad to share this experience with my husband and friends.

Our day at the Spiral Jetty was filled with exploration and excitement.

To get there we had to drive 3 hours from Salt Lake City and climb through rocks.  In order to have enough energy to enjoy this day I made sure I fueled my body in the morning.  While everyone was drinking coffee and eating bagels I enjoyed my Shaklee Chocolate Cinch Shake and some Cinch Energizing Tea.

What I love about Shaklee is that it has taught and given me tools on how to live a healthy life.  When I’m traveling I always enjoy myself!  I’m not obsessed about counting calories or not eating but I know how to make healthy decisions.  I have my own rules that I stick to and help me feel good.  I use products that help me to feel full/energized and products that help with my digestion– all of these things make it easier to make better choices.

I feel bad for people who can’t enjoy themselves when they are out because they feel they are ‘cheating’ on their diets.  One of my clients mother’s stays home so she ‘wont’ eat too much’ and another client indulges when she travels and eats everything since she ‘will never have this experience again..

Shaklee and I teach that there is a balance between these two extremes.

Enjoy your life, try new things, but set yourself up for success.

Cheers!

Hey guys!

I’m excited to announce the winner of my first giveaway– Tim from A True Gentleman.

Congrats!  Email me your address to receive your Shaklee Cinch package.

Halloween quickly came and flew by.  I had a fabulous weekend with my friends that were visiting from Saratoga Springs.  I was in great spirits and didn’t eat too much Halloween candy.  We all went to my husband’s gallery in Brooklyn, went out for beers, and explored the artwork at Moma.

Here they are in the West Village posing with Bob Dylan.  Can anyone recognize where this original iconic photo came from?

Aren’t they clever!

My friends are walkers and blended in perfectly with NYCers.  I love that New York City is a walking city.  I enjoy walking around and exploring each different part of the city but as it gets colder I notice that people (myself included) start to walk less and less.

Less walking = less exercise!  The less I exercise the more the pound start to creep up.

Remember—to lose or maintain weight we need to exercise more or eat less.

The cold weather also brings on eating and drinking more comfort foods.  I mean what’s better than drinking a hot chocolate on a cold day?!

Winter comfort foods also include sweet potatoes, healthy oatmeal, chai teas, etc which are all good in moderation but can add up to 150-300 calories a day.  We should all be able to enjoy these foods but we have to remember— moderation.  It’s not a good idea to have that hot chocolate every day!

Here are some suggestions to increase your movement and reduce your food intake:

1)      Awareness! To start out, I suggest to journal for a few days so you can see where those extra calories are coming from.  This will help you re-evaluate your caloric intake and see where it can be adjusted.

2)      Eat more protein!  The majority of my clients are missing protein in their diets.  Protein helps keep you feeling full so you don’t over eat!  1/3 of women don’t get enough protein in their diets. Make sure you have at least 4 oz of protein at every meal. I suggest incorporating Cinch meal bars or Cinch shakes into your daily routine.  Both of these products are convenient and a full source of protein.  According to research, they also help maintain lean muscle mass.

3)      Find different ways to move!  Since I am walking less with the cold weather I try to do more activities inside.  Every morning I alternate between Yoga and Chi Kung movements.  This helps me get my blood flowing and inspires me for the day ahead. I suggest 10-20 minutes every day. ((Look out next week for my Morning Exercise Routine Video!!))
