I’m excited to share with everyone that I recently got my certification as a

diabetic nurse educator.

Diabetes is on the rise.  1 in 4 Americans over 60 has type 2 Diabetes

This can easily be changed!  Studies have shown that with a proper diet diabetes can be reversed in as little as 8 weeks.

We all know what the main causes of diabetes — SUGAR.

Did you know that the average American eats more sugar in one day than our ancestors did during an entire lifetime?

Sugar is the cause of most illnesses and diseases.

Sugar has a very negative effects on our body.  Immediately it  effects our moods and hormones.  I’m sure you have all experienced a sugar rush in your lives after eating a candy bar or drinking soda.  This sugar rush causes our blood sugar levels to spike and just leaves us tired and drained.  In the long term- sugar causes us to gain weight, increases our chances of diabetes, and heart disease.

And it doesn’t help that sugar is addicting. Our bodies crave it and once we give in we just want more.

So how can you reduce your sugar intake and prevent diabetes?

1) Dr Willard Willet from Harvard School of Medicine says the number one way to reducing sugar is to eliminate sugary beverages. Stick with water or ice tea.

2) Instead of grabbing for that afternoon candy bar- eat foods that will help balance out your blood sugar. A convenient way is with the Cinch Inch Loss program- this is a delicious addition to your diet and taste like a dessert but doesn’t spike your blood sugar.

3) Be conscious of the food your are eating.  Eat foods that have a low glycemic index because they will release glucose more slowly and steadily.  Here’s a list of great foods including brown rice and sweet potatoes.

4) Indulge your sweet tooth naturally. Fruits, honey, maple syrup and molasses all contain natural sugars. Although these foods are no health superstars, they are a better option when the sweet tooth strikes and you are craving some sugary action.

Losing 10 pounds sounds like a daunting task to many people

But the reality is that many of us need to lose that extra weight for our health and our appearance.

My ‘Just 10 Pounds’ Program makes weight loss simple.

Losing weight can be easier than many of us believe.  It’s all about wanting it, self control, choosing the right foods, and exercise.

  • Food:

  • Exercise

So what holding us back?

Here are some tips for sicking with it:

1.         What is your motivation?

You health?  Wedding?  College reunion?  You have to want it!

2.       Make a plan

Be very specific about your food. 

-Make a shopping list of healthy foods and have them readily available.

– Pick something each week to work on (No Soda, Cut down on Sugar, etc)

Be specific when you are going to exercise. Plan your days!

3.       Set yourself up for success

Do you have a coach?  A group of friends to do this with?  We all need support and it helps to be accountable for your weight loss goals.

Weight Lost doesn’t have to be so hard.  Make good choices, set yourself up for success, eat the right foods, and exercise.

Congrats to everyone doing the Just 10 Pounds challenge.  2 1/2 more weeks.  We can do it!

To aid in our weight loss- We are all using Shaklee’s Cinch products.

We’ve all heard the buzz around Gluten Free Foods and Products but with so many fads around these days  is this something everyone should really be caring about?

Absolutely!  Gluten intolerance can wreak havoc on your body and cause a lot of discomfort and pain.

I’m going to dissect this trend and show you WHY it matters

Ever had an unhappy sore belly, feel bloated, have extra weight, fatigue, or severe diarrhea?  If so- you might have a gluten intolerance.

There are different levels to this disease.  The extreme case is genetic Celiac disease and the lesser (although still painful) is a gluten intolerance.  Both of these act like irritable bowel syndrome with the above symptoms.

Many people have a negative reaction to Gluten which includes wheat, breads, pastas, cookies etc.

The best way to check if you have a Gluten intolerance is to cut this kind of food out for 2 weeks and see how you feel.

On June 3rd I was involved with a Celiac disease Fundraiser ‘The L.Lodico walk for Celiac Disease’ and I saw and spoke with people who have suffered from this.   This disease is not to be messed with because it creates a lot of inflammation in your body but monitoring your diet can improve it.

The people I met have an extreme case and absolutely cannot eat anything with Gluten or that had touched Gluten.  On the other side of the spectrum are people with a Gluten intolerance.  Many of these people love these products and think they can just go through live just dealing with the pain/bloatedness because they think eating the food is worth it.


You don’t realize what this is doing to your internal organ if you have this intolerance.  Slowly the little hairs that break down and help you digest/use the vitamins and nutrients in your food are getting worn away and instead create inflammation.

If you are feeling the symptoms above you need to try a Gluten Free diet and restore your body back to health.

Gluten Free Foods are products that contain no wheat, rye or barley.  Instead stick to fruits, vegetables, rice, beans, low fat dairy, seafood and poultry.  Also- when you are taking vitamins make sure they are gluten free.  Many of us don’t realize that wheat is put into many vitamins.  Check labels!  I also recommend using Shaklee’s Cinch products which are all Gluten free.

The weather is finally getting warmer and it’s time to crawl out of our hibernation and enjoy the great outdoors!

Warm weather often encourages more outdoor physical activities.

Biking, roller blading, walking, running, swimming, hiking, canoeing, etc

These activities are not only great for our bodies but are fun.

I encourage everyone to go out there and enjoy the weather but don’t forget about 2 important things:

1) Sunburn!

I have a client who is 26 and recently challenged herself to a 20 mile bike ride but couldn’t walk the next few days because of it.
