I’m excited to share with everyone that I recently got my certification as a

diabetic nurse educator.

Diabetes is on the rise.  1 in 4 Americans over 60 has type 2 Diabetes

This can easily be changed!  Studies have shown that with a proper diet diabetes can be reversed in as little as 8 weeks.

We all know what the main causes of diabetes — SUGAR.

Did you know that the average American eats more sugar in one day than our ancestors did during an entire lifetime?

Sugar is the cause of most illnesses and diseases.

Sugar has a very negative effects on our body.  Immediately it  effects our moods and hormones.  I’m sure you have all experienced a sugar rush in your lives after eating a candy bar or drinking soda.  This sugar rush causes our blood sugar levels to spike and just leaves us tired and drained.  In the long term- sugar causes us to gain weight, increases our chances of diabetes, and heart disease.

And it doesn’t help that sugar is addicting. Our bodies crave it and once we give in we just want more.

So how can you reduce your sugar intake and prevent diabetes?

1) Dr Willard Willet from Harvard School of Medicine says the number one way to reducing sugar is to eliminate sugary beverages. Stick with water or ice tea.

2) Instead of grabbing for that afternoon candy bar- eat foods that will help balance out your blood sugar. A convenient way is with the Cinch Inch Loss program- this is a delicious addition to your diet and taste like a dessert but doesn’t spike your blood sugar.

3) Be conscious of the food your are eating.  Eat foods that have a low glycemic index because they will release glucose more slowly and steadily.  Here’s a list of great foods including brown rice and sweet potatoes.

4) Indulge your sweet tooth naturally. Fruits, honey, maple syrup and molasses all contain natural sugars. Although these foods are no health superstars, they are a better option when the sweet tooth strikes and you are craving some sugary action.

Losing 10 pounds sounds like a daunting task to many people

But the reality is that many of us need to lose that extra weight for our health and our appearance.

My ‘Just 10 Pounds’ Program makes weight loss simple.

Losing weight can be easier than many of us believe.  It’s all about wanting it, self control, choosing the right foods, and exercise.

  • Food:

I recommend to all my clients to drink 2 Cinch shakes every day.  These shakes contain leucine which will keep you full and provide you with all the necessary vitamins and nutrient your body needs.

In addition to these shakes I recommend eating 1 real food meal and 1 snack.  This diet allows people to start adjusting their eating habits in a manageable way.

Not to mention the shakes are delicious and you can add fun things like Kale, Spinach, Blueberries, Strawberries, Mint, Cilantro to spice them up (they don’t need it but can be fun!)

  • Exercise

Exercise is another key component to weight loss.  I recommend finding an activity you like and get moving for at least 30 minutes a day!  Even if this is just dancing in your living room to fun music

Move!

Here’s some inspiration to help you along:

Jacqui McCoy from ABC’s Extreme Makeover show: Weight Loss Edition lost 207 pounds in one year! 58% of her body weight.

You go girl!

So what holding us back?

Here are some tips for sicking with it:

1.         What is your motivation?

You health?  Wedding?  College reunion?  You have to want it!

2.       Make a plan

Be very specific about your food.

-Make a shopping list of healthy foods and have them readily available.

– Pick something each week to work on (No Soda, Cut down on Sugar, etc)

Be specific when you are going to exercise. Plan your days!

3.       Set yourself up for success

Do you have a coach?  A group of friends to do this with?  We all need support and it helps to be accountable for your weight loss goals.

Weight Lost doesn’t have to be so hard.  Make good choices, set yourself up for success, eat the right foods, and exercise.

If Jacqui can do it, so can you!

Congrats to everyone doing the Just 10 Pounds challenge.  2 1/2 more weeks.  We can do it!

To aid in our weight loss- We are all using Shaklee’s Cinch products.

What I love about the Cinch Weight Loss program and why I’ve been advocating and using Shaklee for over 25 years is that it preserves muscle by making sure we have the right kind of protein.

Many diet program don’t provide enough protein which is why our bodies finds other sources and many people start to lose their hair.

Educate yourself and don’t be one of these people!

On a restrictive 1200 calorie diet it is difficult to get 80-120 grams of the protein you need everyday.  80-120 grams helps of protein helps us preserve muscle, hair and skin health.

Did you know hair is 91% protein?

When we go on diets we need to remember and make sure we are getting enough vitamins and protein.

I recommend the Cinch program to all my clients because it is filled with all the vitamins, minerals, and protein your body need.

The Cinch shakes come in 4 delicious flavors: Vanilla, Cafe latte (my favorite and helps cut down on your coffee consumption!), chocolate, and strawberry.

I recommend having 2 shakes a day.  This will help boost the good amino acid leucine (which is in the shakes) to preserve your muscle and improve your metabolism.

The best way to lose weight is to eat 1200-1400 calories, with lean protein at each meal and snack (Cinch snack bars are

Strategic here), unlimited vegetables, and exercise.

Keep it up!  Together we can do it.  Remember it’s cute Summer Dress and bikini season…

We’ve all heard the buzz around Gluten Free Foods and Products but with so many fads around these days  is this something everyone should really be caring about?

Absolutely!  Gluten intolerance can wreak havoc on your body and cause a lot of discomfort and pain.

I’m going to dissect this trend and show you WHY it matters

Ever had an unhappy sore belly, feel bloated, have extra weight, fatigue, or severe diarrhea?  If so- you might have a gluten intolerance.

There are different levels to this disease.  The extreme case is genetic Celiac disease and the lesser (although still painful) is a gluten intolerance.  Both of these act like irritable bowel syndrome with the above symptoms.

Many people have a negative reaction to Gluten which includes wheat, breads, pastas, cookies etc.

The best way to check if you have a Gluten intolerance is to cut this kind of food out for 2 weeks and see how you feel.

On June 3rd I was involved with a Celiac disease Fundraiser ‘The L.Lodico walk for Celiac Disease’ and I saw and spoke with people who have suffered from this.   This disease is not to be messed with because it creates a lot of inflammation in your body but monitoring your diet can improve it.

The people I met have an extreme case and absolutely cannot eat anything with Gluten or that had touched Gluten.  On the other side of the spectrum are people with a Gluten intolerance.  Many of these people love these products and think they can just go through live just dealing with the pain/bloatedness because they think eating the food is worth it.

Wrong!

You don’t realize what this is doing to your internal organ if you have this intolerance.  Slowly the little hairs that break down and help you digest/use the vitamins and nutrients in your food are getting worn away and instead create inflammation.

If you are feeling the symptoms above you need to try a Gluten Free diet and restore your body back to health.

How is this done?

1)      To get your zest back and feel better you must first nurse your body back to health and reduce the damage wheat has had on your body.  I suggest using Shaklee’s Vitastrip which will help your body get the vitamin and minerals it needs to build these tiny hairs back.

  • Vitalizer

2)      Also Eat Gluten free Foods

Gluten Free Foods are products that contain no wheat, rye or barley.  Instead stick to fruits, vegetables, rice, beans, low fat dairy, seafood and poultry.  Also- when you are taking vitamins make sure they are gluten free.  Many of us don’t realize that wheat is put into many vitamins.  Check labels!  I also recommend using Shaklee’s Cinch products which are all Gluten free.

Cheers & Enjoy the weather!

The weather is finally getting warmer and it’s time to crawl out of our hibernation and enjoy the great outdoors!

Warm weather often encourages more outdoor physical activities.

Biking, roller blading, walking, running, swimming, hiking, canoeing, etc

These activities are not only great for our bodies but are fun.

I encourage everyone to go out there and enjoy the weather but don’t forget about 2 important things:

1) Sunburn!

Although the sun provides our bodies with Vitamin D it’s important you limit your exposure time or protect your skin.   I suggest to apply Shaklee’s Enfuselle Time Repair before you go outside.  Not only does this product provide spf- it also has a special system called vital repair plus which actually helps repair and reverse the damage from the sun.

Shaklee has teamed up with Olympic Athletes this summer, many of which train outside in the sun.

One athlete told me how she used Shaklee’s Time Repair am only her face.  She was out all day training for a triathlon and her chest and arms were burnt to a crisp but her face was untouched by the sun.  Powerful lotion here!

2) Don’t experience a burn out!

Warm weather also encourages us to try new activities or activities we haven’t done in a while.

I have a client who is 26 and recently challenged herself to a 20 mile bike ride but couldn’t walk the next few days because of it.

When she came to me complaining I told her it was great that she tested her body to the limit but she also needed to increase her nutrition so her body and muscles could repair and won’t go into adrenal exhaustion.

I suggest 3 things to her (and anyone trying out new activities for the summer!)

  • Vitalizer

  • Joint Health Complex

  • Energy chews

Using the Enfuselle Skin Care and these 3 products above will help you enjoy your summer physical activities instead of feeling burned and burnt out.

Cheers & Enjoy the weather!
