I’m excited to share with everyone that I started a 3 month journey to reset my body.

My goal is to lose 20 pounds in 90 days!

I’m not doing this challenge alone.  I have a group of 3,000 people from Shaklee’s Las Vegas Convention joining me.  Groups give you support and also accountability which helps  you can achieve your goal.

20 pounds might seem like a daunting task but I want it and I’m motivated to do it.

Dr McManus, a speaker at the conference and head of SHAKLEE Medical Affairs, motivated all of us by warning us about the dangers of carrying extra weight.

Extra fat generates higher levels of insulin which puts people at risk of cancer, type-2 diabetes and heart disease.

(Interesting article on this from CNN- ‘Excess weight shortens life’)

Dr McManus’s challenge for us is to: “if you’re going to talk the talk, you’ve got to walk the walk.”

Jacqui McCoy, the women who lost 205 pounds on Extreme Makeover, also spoke at the conference and motivated us.  She has kept all the weight off and she is excited to be a coach now herself on“Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss edition.”

Talk about inspiration and motivated!  If Jacqui can lose 205 pounds I can lose 20!

5 tips to reset your body and lose those extra pounds:

1)  Find a strong strong why.  Why do you want to make changes?

For me I have 2 strong whys- To feel great in my clothes again and to prevent disease. I worked as a nurse for 10 years and saw what can happen to unhealthy overweight people.  It’s important to connect how your going to lose weight to why you want to lose weight.

2) Plan your menu every week.

Every Sunday find fun recipes and make a list and shop for foods you love.  Don’t leave your meals to chance.

3) Don’t deprive yourself.

On Shaklee’s Cinch Program, everyday we drink a shake, eat a bar, drink a tea and take a booster vitamin at every meal.  And we encourage a full meal at dinner.  Talk about not depriving yourself!

To lose weight, I can still eat 1500 calories per day including shakes, bars and tea.,  The Cinch diet is 40%( Carbohydrate)-30(Protein)-30(Fat) which is the ideal ratio so the body does not think it is starving. When this happens it lowers our metabolism and holds on to fat.  I feel satisfied with the program so I am tempted not to eat and then later I am hungry.

4) Find a group to motivate you.  Groups make you accountable and help you with your weight loss goals.  Join my group the “Unforgettables!”  We speak every Tuesday night 8 pm.

5) Get Moving . Exercise changes your attitude as well as your body. Move every chance you have!   I suggest to find activities you love to do,  walk during your lunch break, and take the stairs.  I recommend moving at least 30 minutes every single day!

Simple answer: YES

It is important to be conscious of certain numbers including:

–          Your BMI

–          Your waist to Hip ratio

And the best thing?  You can measure them both yourself!

So why do these matter?

1)      Your BMI

What is BMI? Body Mass Index- it’s the ratio of your height to your weight.

Check out the chart below and match your current weight and height.  Your goal range should be under 25.

This is important because it gives you away to estimate your body composition and determine your health goals.

2) Your waist to hip ratio

There has been many recently studies and articles about the importance of your waist to hip ratio.

Why does this matter?

This ratio is about body fat distribution.  According to a study from the National Institute of Health, if your waist is over 35 inches you are more then 2x likely to die from heart disease or cancer then if your waist has a circumference of 28 inches (even if you are a normal weight.)

Thin people who are not healthy are also susceptible to these statistics.  This example shows how weight is not the only indicator  of health.  You need both your BMI and waist to hip ratio to access it well.

There are many diets out there that can help you lose weight but are you losing the right kind of weight?

Shaklee’s Cinch Program helps you lose fat and not muscle which make you healthier (not to mention thinner!)

The programs contains all the essential vitamins and nutrients, in particular leucine, that your body needs to function properly.

Leucine is important for 3 reasons:

1) It keep you feeling full longer

2) It preserves muscle mass which helps you lose inches

3) When you have more muscle your metabolism increases

The average person goes on at least 2 diets every year and loses muscle when they are losing weight.  This is short term fix and will not lead to overall health.  Shaklee’s Cinch Program promotes a long term solution for a overall healthy life.

Shaklee’s Special Cinch Offer

Perfect way to start the Cinch Program because you get to try everything!

My favorite are the shakes!

I would also like to invite you to join my new weight loss group ‘The Unforgettables’ which you can join from the comfort of your own house on our weekly Tuesday night 8 pm phone calls.

In my last post, Birthday Week! How to stay young forever, I talked about how to stay young at every age.  To continue on this topic I would like to talk about your immune system and how to keep it strong as you get older.

It’s true.  Your immune system slows down as you get older BUT this doesn’t have to mean you get sick all the time!

Our mother’s always said:  if someone coughs in your face you’ll get sick.

Many of us believe that sickness is easily passed on and if someone coughs around us we will get sick.  I’m living proof this is not entirely true.

I recently had someone staying in my apartment who had walking pneumonia and neither my husband or I got sick.

How is this possible you might be wondering?

Having a healthy immune system is all about prevention.

If you are healthy and you have a strong immune system our bodies can naturally fight off disease and sickness.

You can do this by eating healthy, exercising, and taking the right supplements.

Things that weaken our immune system:

2) Over-exposure to toxins (through skin care, household cleaning products, food, etc)

3) Lack of rest

4) Genetics

5) Getting older

As you can see, our age is only 1/5 of the problem!  We can control most 3/5 of it by the choices we make.

If you give your body (white cells, thymus gland, antibodies) enough of the right nutrients then your immune system will respond quickly, continue to respond and then discard the attacking germ.

It’s all about prevention!

1) Replace your diet with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and low fat protein

2) Take supplements daily

3) Here’s some great herbal tips:

-For an immediate immune system boost- take Defend and Resist. It is a combination of Echinacea, larch tree and elderberry.  These will help boosts the # of White blood cells in your body

-Shaklee’s Premium Garlic Complex-increase white blood cells and fights bacteria. Virus and fungal invaders  (( Click here:http://bit.ly/OL46Vm ))

-Shaklee’s Optiflora System– Keeps your gut healthyby keeping your bacteria and yeast in check ((click here: http://bit.ly/OFBDjC ))

– Shaklee’s Nutriferon– Anyone who has allergies, sinus congestion, sick too often (walking pneumonia) Hepatitis C or get this PMS or perimenopause. It helps them all. ((click here: http://bit.ly/NXvsLM ))

We can control our immune system.

If you take 1 thing away from this post: Prevention is KEY.  Eat right, exercise, and supplement in order to stay young forever!
